An India without last name

An India without last name

A person is distinguished from another by his name. The full name of a person generally consists of two or in some cases three parts; first name, middle name and last name. The first name depicts the name of a person, the middle name generally depicts their parent name, the last name tells about the caste of the person.

Using a rational and common mind, one can think of why different people have different names. Most definitely, to identify a person. Think of  a world where every person has the same name as others. If everyone has a common name, how would you call another person, and how will that person know that you’re calling them out. For this reason only, everyone has their own name and this is completely understandable and relevant for each person to have their own name.

The middle name is generally used by a person to use their father’s name or mother’s name. Not everyone uses it, but still a fraction of people in our country keep their middle name.

Coming to the last name, the last name of a person depicts their caste. The question arises, is the last name really required to identify a person like the first name. When you can identify and call another person using their first name, why is the last name required.

Is the requirement of a name to identify a person or to divide. Caste creates divide which ultimately means that the last name of a person creates divide. What if there is no last name? In that case, there will be no discrimination, no hatred and no divide. The most common and simple thing for anyone to understand is that it is not in anyone’s hand to be born in a certain caste and a certain family. It is by God’s grace that you are born to your parents.

Your life, life-partner, health, job, growth, education is in your hands but your caste is not. Think of a country where everyone is equal, not on documents but in society. A country with only love for others and no discrimination and exploitation on the basis of caste and where everyone is equal and enjoys the same freedom of living and respect.  It is high time that the youth of this country stand up and speak against the caste system.
