Arrests in Delhi for pasting posters

On May 15, postures in Delhi were pasted asking questions to our Prime Minister as to why did he send the vaccines for our children to foreign nations?

FIRs were registered against 25 people and as many were arrested in connection with the same postures that surfaced across the national capital under Sections 188 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and under relevant sections of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act,  2007, an official stated.

According to section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, if any person disobeys any order or direction declared by a public servant to do or not to do any act, and if such disobedience causes danger to human life, health or safety, he shall be punished with imprisonment for a period which may extend upto six months, or with a fine which may extend upto one thousand rupees, or both. In this case, the order disobeyed is working during the lockdown period.

Under section 269 of the Indian Penal Code, if any person unlawfully or negligently does any act which is likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life, he shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend upto six months, or with fine, or with both.

According to the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, whoever pastes any posters, writings on the wall, banners on any property in public view like building, structures, wall, trees, poles by printing or painting shall be imprisoned for a period extending upto one year, or with fine extending upto fifty thousand rupees, or with both. 

However, the opposition parties including Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have accused the Delhi Police of making these arrests under the direction of the Central Government to curb voices against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
